Meet Bonnie

Hometown…I grew up in a large family, just outside of Toronto.

Did you know…My husband Kevin and I, have two daughters Claire and Lily.

Favourite Childhood Memories…My siblings and I thoroughly enjoyed our childhood. With the outdoors as our backyard we enjoyed a range of outdoor activities; from skating on ponds in the winter to riding bicycles for miles in the summer, and lots of simple pleasures in between.

Things I love about Park Hyatt Toronto… For the past 20 years I have had the pleasure to do something I love. Ten of those years have been spent with my Park Hyatt Toronto family and as the chapters continue to be written one thing remains constant – the warmth of the people you feel when walking into this building, is the undeniable ‘soul’ of our home.  The bonus is being part of a team who are equally passionate about being hoteliers.

Favourite Dining Experience in Toronto… If you asked my daughters, their first choice would always be in the kitchen with Chef Joan. Toronto has a vast culinary scene but I am always drawn to those places with a fresh, modern take on old favourites that are meant to be shared.

My Favourite Dessert…Chef Joan’s Lemon Tarts

My Favourite Spa Treatment…Pearl Perfection Facial at Stillwater Spa.

I never travel without…my iPad, Pashmina and my favourite scent.

My other passions…Downhill skiing with my family, Cottage getaways in Muskoka and exposing my daughters to new places and experiences.

Things I love about Yorkville…When I walk around the neighbourhood I am often reminded of how intimate the Yorkville experience is while catering to such a variety of unique tastes and preferences. Likewise, when our guests walk through our doors I am pleased that they are able to enjoy the amenities and smallest of details that will create fond memories of a place in time never to be forgotten.

My Career Journey…It feels like just yesterday that I completed college and began working as a hotel Operator.  I consider myself fortunate to have discovered what it is that I was passionate about at a young age. From my very first day with Hyatt when I began my career here as the Director of Rooms, the Park Hyatt Toronto felt like home. Ten years later when I walk through our doors, I still get that same feeling.

Insider travel tip…I was drawn to city life when I moved to attend college and have enjoyed the cosmopolitan environment that has been home for the past 20 years. There is something captivating and infectious about the blend of offerings that Toronto introduces through each experience. The ‘city of neighbourhoods’ allows guests and Torontonians alike to enjoy the authenticity of Toronto.

Orson Tsoi
Park Hyatt Toronto Lead Concierge
Tel: 416-324-1554
Email: orson.tsoi@hyatt.com

For seven years I have had the pleasure of being the Concierge at the Park Hyatt Toronto. My days are filled with both the excitement from new experiences and a sense of fulfillment from creating memories with our guests.   Being a master of my craft is something I take very seriously and I would have to say that one of my greatest accomplishments thus far has been receiving my Golden Keys from Les Clefs d’Or, the International Concierge Association.

What is the best part about your job?
Every day I have the opportunity to connect with many guests from different cultures and various industries.  Each exchange allows a bond to develop as we share our travel experiences and invite each other into our respective worlds, from our perspective. I often feel like I have traveled the globe, while still standing in the same city.

What is the most unusual request you’ve ever been asked?
No day is ever the same for us, and what makes it even more interesting is the range of requests that we handle. Selecting the most unusual guest request is not an easy task, as requests are usually so specific in nature.

A moment that comes to mind happened during the Toronto International Film Festival.  Two hours before his red carpet premiere, a Director called us with an issue he was experiencing.  His blazer that he had purchased in an independent store prior to his Toronto visit still had the security magnetic strip on it.  He needed to wear that particular jacket for his premiere. I called one of my contacts at a local clothing store who offered to remove it based on our word and reputation.  The film director was relieved when I called him 20 minutes later with his blazer ready for the evening debut.

If you only had time to see or do one thing in Toronto what would it be?
The Edgewalk at the CN Tower!   You will definitely get to “see” all of Toronto in that one moment.

What question do you get asked every single day at work?
I get asked at the minimal five times a day how to get to our Roof Top Lounge.

What is your favorite cultural place to walk to from your hotel?
We have a great number of art galleries within walking distance but my favorite place to visit is the Royal Ontario Museum, Canada’s largest museum.  It’s a great place to explore alone, with a friend, or with the family.

If you had $15 to spend on a meal where would it be?  If you had $500?
With $15, I would order a Beef Brisket Noodle along with a side of Garlic Bok Choy at King’s Noodle in Chinatown for either lunch or dinner.

If I had $500 to spend I would start with an assorted platter of fresh Oysters at Rodney’s Oyster Bar on King Street, then head across the street to Jacob’s Steakhouse for an 18 oz. Bone-In Striploin aged 30 days with a side of Assorted Mushrooms & Duck Fat Fried French fries.

I would be equally happy with either option.

If you could experience a day in the hotel how would you start your day?
It would begin with an early morning Stillwater Spa Essential Signature Massage, followed by lunch at the Roof Top Lounge where I could also enjoy views of Toronto’s skyline.

What is your favorite item from Annona Restaurant?
Narrowing it down to just one is difficult as I have a few favourite items on the menu. If I had to pick just one, it would be the Lobster Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Tomato soup and a side order of Aioli French Fries.

Is there an interesting fact about your hotel that many people don’t know?
Our hotel has two towers, the North Tower & The South Tower. The South Tower is a Toronto historic landmark that was constructed in 1933, and the North Tower was constructed in 1955.

If there is another Park Hyatt in the world that you could visit which one would it be?
I would love to visit the Park Hyatt Tokyo.  Friends of mine mentioned that they have visited the hotel’s bar and they were wowed by the view, service and décor.  Another friend who stayed there said it is arguably the best hotel he’s ever stayed in and he’s a frequent world traveller.
